Laptop computers have come down in price significantly over the past few years, and compared to their desktop cousins, performance of this tier of mobile devices now rivals their larger counterparts. With the major computer manufacturers are becoming increasingly power-conscious, laptop users can now be power users. Increased competition among computer companies like Dell, HP, Toshiba, and Apple, has forced them to lower prices and offer greater flexibility in design and specifications of laptops. Whether you use your laptop to create music, edit movies, or just to check your e-mail, you can custom order a laptop to suit your specific needs.

The latest notebooks are sleek, light and powerful machines that offer high performance on par with desktop computers. break through notebooks like the macBook Air introduced by Steve jobs at the beginning of the year have taken the industry by storm. Apple and Intel collaborated to create a thin, efficient chip set to accommodate it’s extraordinary thin profile. Essentially, the newer laptops are being marketed as desktop replacements with built-in Wi-Fi offering greater mobility. Set-up a home wireless network and your laptop stays connected to the Internet as you move from the living room to the kitchen to the bedroom. You are no longer restricted to the study desk to access your favorite celebrity gossip Web sites. So plant yourself on the comfy couch, snack on your finger food and shop on your favorite Internet sites.
Not ready to take the plunge in either direction? Take a deep breath and check out the desktop vs. laptop debate.
Not sure whether your loyalties tilt towards a Mac or a PC? Read this.
For those with a creative bent, PC Tablet Computers allow you to share free-hand drawings and artwork. Tablet computers are also very handy for working in cramped space, such as on an airplane, car, bus, or train.

If anyone has ever told you that taking a leak out in the garden is just a natural way to help the grass and plants to grow, you can now suggest a slightly less embarrassing way to do the same thing.

The Venus septic system from the Danish company Biokube, takes all of your household waste water, including sewage, and treats it until it’s clean enough to be used in a garden sprinkler system. Still, even with all of its bio filters and leeching fields, I’m not sure I’d want my kid crawling on a lawn watered by toilet water.

Biokube developed the Venus for use in California, where water supplies are extremely tight, and the climate is too dry to rely on rainwater. With the average American home going through 400 gallons of tap water per day, there should be plenty going down the drain to keep those lawns luscious and green.

It’s been all treats this week at DVICE — well, with maybe one trick — and we went a little costume crazy. Check out 10 of the coolest iPhone costumes you’re likely to see, as well as 10 robot suits that are so good you’ll wonder if it’s blood or circuitry under there.

We also continued our election tech coverage with the scariest thing you’ll see on one of NYC’s lever voting machines. Meanwhile, in Shift, Stewart Wolpin wonders if it will take an Android to finally kill the iPhone.

Even more treats from this week:

First Peek: Tesla Model S
The all-electric 4-door sedan.

Stock ticker pumpkin actually is really, really scary
Scary or elating, depending on how Wall Street goes.

Hot diggity. It looks like every costume at BioWare’s office this year was a hit. The crew nailed the scout, demo man, spy, pyro and engineer from Team Fortress 2’s pantheon, a game by fellow developer Valve. The good news here is that it looks like BioWare had an awesome day at the office. The bad news? It looks like they’ll have to push Dragon Age back a day, because they couldn’t have gotten any work done.

Other sweet costumes include Scorpion from Mortal Kombat, Pac-Man’s Blinky, Solid Snake, a disturbingly well done Pyramid Head from Silent Hill, and an equally impressive Nemesis from Resident Evil. No Mass Effect or Star Wars costumes from BioWare’s own games, though I’m sure they dress up like that every other day of the year.

That’s where the Digital Thermometer Pan shines, showing you the precise temp of the middle of the pan, displayed on a removable readout right there on the handle. Too bad this $50 pan is just 7.8 inches in diameter, but this is a great idea that we hope migrates to pans of all sizes.

In the snowball fighting arms race, this is getting close to a nuclear weapon. The Snowball Blaster combines slingshot technology with a trio of special forming chambers, and the result is a snowball weapon that might upset the balance of power in your neighborhood this winter.

We can see a formidable snow warrior wielding one of these catapults on each arm, terrorizing all challengers no matter how impregnable their snow forts might seem. Let’s hope you’re not flinging ice balls at close-range targets, because this snow cannon is said to sling its projectiles 50 feet.

If you’re going into battle with two, at least make it a somewhat fair fight by investing $29.95 in one Snowball Blaster for your enemy, too.
